Your first appointment

A Safe and Supportive Environment

Your first appointment will be held in a private setting to discuss your pelvic health problems in detail and also screen for any other pelvic floor related issues. We understand that this can be sensitive information that some people find difficult to discuss, but Jenny has an empathetic ear- and you are unlikely to say anything she hasn’t heard and helped manage before!

If appropriate you will be given options of a physical examination, which could include an internal examination for a pelvic floor problem. An internal vaginal or back passage assessment is available if appropriate.

Pelvic Health FAQs

  • What conditions can pelvic health physiotherapy help with?

Pelvic health physiotherapy can assist with issues such as incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, pregnancy and postnatal recovery, bowel dysfunction, and pelvic floor muscle weakness or tightness.

  • What happens during my first appointment?

Your first session takes place in a private, supportive setting where we discuss your concerns in detail and screen for related pelvic floor issues. If appropriate, an internal examination may be offered to aid diagnosis and treatment.

  • Do I have to have an internal examination?

No, an internal examination is entirely optional and only recommended if beneficial for assessment. Your physiotherapist will discuss all options and ensure you feel comfortable with any chosen approach.

  • How long does it take to see results?

Each person responds differently, but many start noticing improvements within a few weeks of consistent treatment and exercises. Your physiotherapist will guide you through a tailored plan to support your recovery.

  • Is pelvic health physiotherapy just for women?

No, pelvic health physiotherapy supports both men and women with a range of pelvic floor concerns, including post-surgical recovery, bladder and bowel dysfunction, and pelvic pain.
