We have recently added the oov to our equipment classes – great for challenging the core and spine.

Welcome Christine – our new Pilates Instructor

Christine has recently joined the Impact team as a Pilates Instructor. She brings a huge amount of experience from Asia and the US as a Physical Therapist and Polestar Pilates Mentor. We are excited to be working with her. Christine is currently working solely as a Pilates Instructor in the UK as she awaits transfer of her registration to enable her to practice as a Physiotherapist.

Christine will be covering occasional classes at Long Eaton over the summer period as well as being available for individual sessions. She is also offering a summer schedule of classes at The University of Derby. Please contact us for more details.

Reformer-thon & goodbye Wilien

Still buzzing from a Fab Friday Fundraising – here’s a clip of the best bits – and a huge “THANK-YOU”

£356 now! reformer-thon

It is also with sadness that we say goodbye to Wilien who has been with us for the last few years – we always knew it wouldn’t be for ever, but Wilien has been a huge part of our team – setting up the Pilates matwork classes as well as bringing electro-acupuncture to the clinic.  A great team-surfer!! Wilien – have a fab trip back home – South Africa are re-gaining a top quality Physio!! We will miss you – but watch out – the next Impact-Tour might just be to African soils!!

Children in Need – 12 hour reformer-thon

Wow! A huge thank-you to Louise, Sandie, Laura, all the physios, Pilates classes and clients who have joined us to “reformer” and “eat cakes” – raising an awesome £346 for children in need. 12 hours of Pilates from 07:00 – Chris took the first leg, then the baton has been handed from person to person all day – and the reformer has been moving until 19:00baby pudseysuper-fizzSandieLauralearning young!! Well done to everyone who has taken part and contributed to a fantastic cause. Thank-you+++Children in Need

Congratulations Louise: Now a certified Core Align Instructor

Congratulations to Louise who is now one of only 2 Balanced Body certified core align instructors in the UK.

To achieve this, Louise has completed 40 Core Align personal sessions (proud owner of a fit healthy body!) 14 hours observation and 120 student teaching hours – a huge total of 222 hours including the 16 hours for each of the 3 courses – wow!  Lousie has worked with Pilates instructors from all over the world during her courses, from Greece, Denmark, France (including the Pilates instructor from the cirque de soleil) .

Louise’s first course was taught by Portia Page, balanced body faculty member from California. (have a look at her work outs on YouTube). Louise completed the final two courses with Veronique Coignac, a core align master trainer, and in December, passed her final exam to become a certified balanced body core align instructor.

The core align was designed by a Physio from Belize, Jonathan Hoffman to challenge his sporting clients, bringing the ethos of Joseph Pilates into the 21st century. Jonathon found working with his clients on the core align that he quickly learnt how it helped them become aware of their movement weaknesses and improve them in a dynamic and functional way.

With the core align you can exercise any part of the body, challenging strength, balance or co-ordination depending on the variation of resistance or orientation of the body.

It doesn’t end here, Louise plans to join 2 American physio’s for a further course in April  using the core align for specific injuries, so she can teach it to all the physio’s at the practice. And after she’s convinced Rachel to buy another, we’ll all be able to try the really good stuff on two units at the same time!!!

Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi….

Another great week at Pilates – the current theme being Wimbledon  – if its good enough for Andy Murray……

Lots of tennis rackets are being used on the reformer, Bosu balls and baby arc; concentrating on rotation throughout the body. The principals are the same but one things for sure although the Pilates classes have been running for over 10 years at Impact, many of the original Pilates students still come today!  What a testimonial!

The yoga classes have been running for over a year now and all classes are nearly full – just a few spaces throughout Friday if you’re interested?

We are also excited to be starting Tai Chi for Arthritis soon – Chris our holistic physiotherapist is currently finalising plans for the timetable – to register your interest then let us know what times you are interested in.

All our classes have a maximum of 6 students to ensure optimum teacher/student ratio. Please contact us for further details
