Yoga is an exciting new service to be offered at our Long Eaton Clinic. Although new to Impact, yoga is an ancient discipline and essentially means “unity.” Through the practices of Hatha Yoga we try and bring about a unity in the body, mind, emotions and inner-self.
People come to yoga classes for various reasons; to stretch the body deeply, reduce aches and pains and to manage stress. Whatever your goals, a regular yoga practice can help you achieve this. It is suitable for beginners and especially good for those who consider themselves to be flexibly-challenged!
The classes will be held at our Long Eaton Clinic.
As many people do, I first experienced yoga ten years ago at my local gym. I wanted to find something to help me stretch my aching limbs from my hockey playing and various other sports! Whilst it did that very successfully, I began to find that yoga had so much more to offer than just a good stretch. It can be a fantastic way of unwinding and de-stressing and can provide some amazing tools to help you cope with life’s ups and downs.
I have completed the British Wheel of Yoga year long foundation course with a very experienced yoga teacher which allowed me to gain further depth and understanding of yoga and its fascinating practices. It has inspired me to want to share these ...and to that end I have recently embarked on the BWY 3 year Teaching Diploma Course. Yoga and physiotherapy are so well suited to each other and I have been lucky enough to be able to integrate yoga into my clinical work. I currently teach yoga to a group of England hockey players to assist them in improving performance and flexibility.
Whether it's improving athletic performance or simply taking some time out for you to stop and draw breath- yoga is for you.
Classes will be an hour in duration. At the start of the class you will be guided through a brief breathing/ relaxation practice to help settle the body and improve focus and concentration for the rest of the class. Most of the class will then be performing Asanas or postures which will specifically work certain areas of the body, to either stretch or strengthen them.
Yoga is unique in that these movements are carefully co-ordinated with the breath which can make a big difference to how the body feels. Occasionally, the teacher will adjust the body whilst in a posture to assist in getting most benefit from it. Equipment such as blocks, belts and bolsters are also used in the class, again to assist in allowing the body to perform the posture correctly.
Following the asana or posture work, the class is ended with a further relaxation practice to allow the body to settle again and hopefully to feel the benefits of the class!
What do I need to bring? There are no specific requirements to participate, mats and other equipment are provided. You will, however, need to wear loose fitting clothes and it is advisable not to eat a big meal 2 hours before the class starting.
Level 1 - No previous Yoga experience.
Level 2: - Consolidate and extend your Yoga knowledge making your practice more specific for you.
