Did you know you have muscles in your scalp? These muscles can develop tension due to anxiety, stress and postural strain. This tension can restrict the flow of blood in the scalp causing a build up of waste products, which can result in tension headaches and referred pain into the jaw, neck and shoulders. This can also contribute to some forms of sinusitis, tinnitus and also eyestrain caused by prolonged computer use.
Indian head massage is performed seated using a variety of massage and acupressure techniques to the scalp, face, neck and shoulders, performed with or without hair oils. It provides a sense of enhanced well being, alleviating muscular tension, stress and anxiety.
Please download and complete our new patient consultation form before your first appointment.
The initial appointment is 45 minutes (£30) which includes an assessment and Indian head massage treatment. If you would like to attend for further Indian head massage treatments they can be for 30 minutes (£25), 45 minutes (£30) or 60 minutes (£35) and can be arranged as you choose.
There is no requirement to have a course of sessions, some clients attend for one session, whilst others may choose to attend once a month or so. We can also help you determine whether there are factors within your work environment for example, such as computer set up or seating which is contributing to your problems and advise how to address these.

Indian head massage isn’t appropriate for everyone and not advisable where you have any of the following:
Please consult with your GP or get in touch with us before booking your appointment if you are unsure.
Indian head massage is uplifting but you may feel tired or a little sore for a short time afterwards, due to it’s detoxifying effects. It’s good to drink some water after your treatment and avoid vigorous activity immediately afterwards.
We use a variety of hair oils which can also help improve the nourishment of your scalp in addition to their uplifting effects. Examples of some of the oils we use include sweet almond, coconut, jasmine, mustard and some blended hair oils. Only a small amount of hair oil is applied to the scalp when required, but it may cause your hair to smell perfumed or appear slightly greasy, so please consider whether you would like oil to be used.
Please get in touch if you have any allergies or sensitivities particularly to nuts or perfumes before treatment, so any such products can be avoided.
If you have any questions then give us a call on 0115 972 1319 and one of our physiotherapists will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Outside of office hours, please use our contact form and we will get in touch with you.
