Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning method that targets deep postural muscles to encourage healthy movement patterns. It aims to develop your body awareness, integrating your mind and body. Our classes have a maximum of six students and are led by Physiotherapists to ensure that any individual needs are met.  Our matwork and studio classes are offered at our Long Eaton clinic and at The University of Derby.

Pilates Course Levels explained

Level 1: Conditioning your body in our Pilates studio with both mat work and equipment based exercise. This class is suitable for beginners or those who haven’t exercised for a while. If you have no previous experience we recommend you have a 1:1 assessment first.

Level 2: A progression of both Pilates mat work and equipment, to increase the level you are working at.

Level 3: Challenge your co-ordination and body control and work up a sweat!

Matwork: If you prefer to exercise without the use of large pieces of equipment then this is the class for you. We have classes for both relative beginners and those who have more experience.

Fundamentals: This course gives you the chance to try a few sessions in a small class in order to develop the basic principles. Based only at our Derby Studio. (University of Derby)

Sports Performance : A class aiming to challenge you and enhance your sporting performance. These classes run periodically. For examples SNOWLATES in the run up to the winter season.

New Participants

For new participants, please call 0115 9721319 to discuss the most suitable course or arrange a 1:1 session for assessment and an appropriate plan to be put in place.

We recommend that you either book a 1:1 session initially, especially if you have had any specific injury or reason for which you are attending Pilates, alternatively if you are injury free and want to book onto our fundamentals course then call us to book your place or discuss further.

  • All courses will run dependent on numbers.
  • Full payment for the course must be received prior to the beginning of the course.
  • We apologise but once the course has started no refunds are possible.
  • Once you have enrolled in a class, you may be able to swap an individual session if you are unable to attend your usual class that week.

Pilates News

Our objective is to listen to you and be your partner in your quest to achieve both mental and physical well being and facilitate you to achieve your personal goals.

Small group classes

We regularly run small group pilates classes with a maximum of six students being taught at a time. This allows our instructors to give each participant their own significant individual attention.

Safe for everyone

Pilates works the muscles through controlled movement and can be adapted to challenge any body whilst accomodating potential physical limitations. Therefore, Pilates is suitable for all, at any age, from the first-time exerciser with chronic back pain to top athletes looking for that sporting edge.

What can Pilates do for me?

Pilates will aid you to achieve better posture, strength and tone of muscles (especially in the abdominal area), improve breathing, suppleness and balance. All of these benefits will reduce your risk of future injury.

Pilates 1:1

1:1 Pilates sessions allow specific exercise programmes to be developed for both in the studio and at home to maximise the benefit from Pilates. As your body changes and develops, so does the exercise programme helping you to strive to achieve and surpass your goals.

Studio Equipment

Our studio is equiped with Pilates specific equipment including a Trapeze table, Reformer, Core Align, Combo Chair, Ladder Barrel, Baby Arc, Orbit, Foam Rollers, Magic Circles and a multitude of soft and weighted balls.

Our Instructors

All of our instructors are Physiotherapists, who are trained at a post graduate level in Pilates to assess movement patterns.

These may be your golf swing, your tennis backhand, your running or cycling style through to how you climb the stairs or simply help you understand why you always feel tension through your neck and shoulder muscles.

Louise Leeming

Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor (Balanced Body certified core align instructor)

Based in Long Eaton, Louise qualified in 1991 and worked in the NHS for 10 years before moving into private practice and training in Pilates. She now runs regular Pilates classes at Impact Physiotherapy.

Fiona Hunter

Physiotherapist

Based in Long Eaton, Fiona qualified from Newcastle upon Tyne School of Physiotherapy in 1983 and then worked in Australia specialising in sports injuries and back and neck problems.

Rebecca Brown

Physiotherapist

Becky has spent her qualifying years focussing on amateur and elite sports and has recently joined us from Reading Football Club. Becky has trained with the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute).

Christine Koh

Pilates Instructor

Christine has recently joined the Impact team as a Pilates Instructor. She brings a huge amount of experience from Asia and the US as a Physical Therapist and Polestar Pilates Mentor.
